“Give Me Any Task; I Am Capable Of Doing All Of Them!” – Raja Mahendra Pratap
Raja Mahendra Pratap, called Nick Vujicic of India for a frame of reference, lost his arms and legs at a very tender age of 5. He was unable to walk and was considered a burden initially. He was forced to spend his valuable 10 years within the four walls of the house. However, when he cannot find any miracle, he started becoming one. His story is the best way to describe the impact made by the people with a disability if they are even given half the chances a normal person gets.
An Unbelievable Insight of his life
Sometimes life is so unpredictable that it changes everything before you can understand. This is what happened to him, and he lost his arms and legs at the age of 5 when he was playing a little game of holding an iron rod over a high Voltage electric wire. He was confined to his house for the next 10 years until the age of 16 as his father treated him as a burden. However, his sisters helped him a lot during all this. He cleared 10th and 12th without attending school by going through his sister’s book. He learned walking by crawling on the floor which rubbed off his skin at the joints. He even tried to lift the things through his mouth and ankle which now helps him to work on the computer and write as well.
A scholarship from Delhi-based ‘National Center for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People’, amounting to Rs. 1000 a year, helped him to complete his course in Finance. He received a lot of calls for Interview but got rejected due to his disability. However, he did not lose hope and continued his search. At last, he landed up a job as Assistant Manager in National Housing Bank, Delhi. Presently, he is working as Finance and Accounts Officer in ONGC, Ahmedabad. He has been respected in both, his previous as well as a present job. His father’s attitude has also changed now and he doesn’t consider him as a burden.
He is staying at the quarters allocated to him by his present organization. He is carrying out all his daily work such as washing utensils, making snacks, etc. He loves to get connected with friends and family through the phone. The special thing about him is that he considered him as a normal person and is capable of taking any task.
“Assign me any work; I am capable of doing all of them. I don’t need the sympathy of people. Treat me normally and I will love it. I wish that people and society treat disabled with respect and accept them.” – Raja
Raja Mahendra Pratap is among those who are proving to the world that determination is what takes to achieve your goals. He is another rare living example of life without limits. He is really different as said for any disabled not because of his disability but due to his determination of living life to the fullest. He has proved that the challenges coming to our way are there to strengthen us not to run us over.
“If I fail, I try again, and again, and again. If YOU fail, are you going to try again? The human spirit can handle much worse than we realize. It matters HOW you are going to FINISH. Are you going to finish strong?”- Nick Vujicic
