"Innovation is taking two things that already exist and putting them together in a new way" - Tom Freston
India is full of people who have mastered their skill and now an inspiration for all. The contribution of North-East states also deserves recognition here. Apart from the well-known boxer Mary Kom from North-East, we have come up with another great personality from North-East. He is the none other than the 56-Year-Old Indian Inventor Uddhab Bharali hailing from Lakhimpur district, Assam. Starting from making a polythene-making machine, he has increased the number of his Innovations to more than 140.
Early Background and the making of a great Inventor
Uddhab was born on 7 April 1962 in the Lakhimpur district of Assam in a business class family. He used to study in government higher secondary school, North Lakhimpur. He was a very bright student since he started his education and that is why he was double promoted two times, from class I to III, and again class VI to VIII. He was surely a step ahead than his age group students as he used to solve some of the toughest sums of class 9 and 10 when he was in class 8. After completing his schooling, he headed to Jorhat Engineering College for engineering. However, he was able to complete AMIE sec 1 only owing to the financial crisis and he had to drop out of college to take care of his family.
It is truly said that every success and failure, both have a story and that is why no story should be left uncompleted. The making of an innovator from being a college dropout started back in 1988 when Uddhab's family was in a huge debt and after his brother's death so he was the only earning member. Uddhab decided to start a polythene business to support his family but he had not that much amount of money to buy the required machinery. He then designed his own machine which costs only 67,000 rupees compared to the cost of 5 lakhs for the same machine in the outside market. It was the starting of his innovations and after that many new types of innovations based on agriculture and small-scale Industries are developed by him. His famous innovation pomegranate de-seeding machine can separate the outer hard skin from the inner thin membrane without any damage to the seed, easily de-seeding around 55 kg of pomegranates per hour. This machine earned him the tag of an innovator in 2006. All the more than 140 innovations of Uddhab are environment-friendly and cost-effective.
“I have seen so many low moments in my life. Had I sat back and complained, I would never have known what I was capable of. I kept working and thinking until I overcame whatever hurdle came my way. So, I believe failure is just a situation. Your action is the solution.” - Uddhab Bharali
"Innovation is the calling card of the future." - Anna Eshoo
Uddhab believes that Necessity is the mother of all the Inventions and this is the what he has proved. The person who was once in a great debt is now the Inventor of more than 140 machines. It is pure zeal of Uddhab for a better society and a better future because of which he has tasted the success. The best part is that his innovations are creating a revolution in the agriculture sector and small scale industries in India. We hope that stories like this about the real-life heroes can inspire others to achieve new heights in their life.
