Dreams can be followed at any time if you believe in them. This is what has been done by Swati Kaushal, author of the bestselling novel ‘A Piece of Cake’ and the young adult novel ‘A Girl Like Me’. Kaushal who was born and brought up in New Delhi writes novels based on her personal experiences. Her story is a perfect example of what it takes to follow your heart and the consequences may be great in some cases. She quit her High-Paying job to chase the Passion for Writing.

She was born in New Delhi, India and earned a BA in Economics from Lady Shriram College in New Delhi. After being graduated from IIM Calcutta, she worked in Brand Management in many global companies. However, she could not forget her passion for writing. She soon realized that she has become a part of rat-race and that is why left the corporate job to focus on writing.

Swati Kaushal started writing her first novel ‘Piece of Cake’ but she was still getting the job offers from the leading brands. She herself told that it was not easy for her to remove her Corporate identity but her love for writing and her small child that want full attention of her, made her do so. At the same time, she along with her family shifted to the US to support her husband’s new job. She needed to start her life from scratch at that point. However, she used to take some past incident from her past life and pen it down humorously and when people like that, she got the suggestions to write her own book.

Swati’s novels always revolve around the heroine-centered narratives that focus on the trials and tribulations of their individual protagonists and stories are also based on her personal experiences. Here is the list of her Novels along with the plot used.

  • The first Novel, A Piece of Cake, 2005, portraits the story of a 29-year-old, Minal Sharma, who works in International Foods as an associate product manager. It shows the struggles an independent woman go through every day.
  • Her second novel that was published in 2008, ‘A Girl Like Me’ portrays the life of an Indian girl named Anisha Rai and her adaptation to the cultures, people and her school in India.
  • The third novel ‘Drop dead’ is the story of Senior Detective Niki Marwah of the Himachal Police showing that a woman can be a cop as well.
  • ‘Lethal Spice’ is one of the thrillers in the collection of novels written by Swati Kaushal.
  • Her new book ‘A Few Good Friends’ in 2017 traces friendships and relationships across decades.
