Slaying little time is living up to the haughty prospect, the 15-year-old Patiala girl Chavvi Kohli makes the entire nation proud by winning a gold medal in the Thailand Open at Bangkok. The young girl managed to steal the title in the U-17 Epee category by defeating Thailand’s renowned fencer in the International Championship.
A class 10th standard student of Patiala’s Yadavindra Public School spoke about her tremendous win at international levels. She took Fencing back six years and became the national Under-14 champion at a national event that held in Cuttak. According to Chavvi, winning gold for the nation was not a piece of cake. Her coaches played a significant role in uplifting the inner confidence. They considerably trained her to achieve her desired goals. Training in India is an Achilles heel for her. She added, and her father works in a private firm based in Patiala who keeps supporting her in difficult times.
Fencing is a different sport in which the contender has to earn points by making contact with the opponent by using ‘rapier-style’ sword. As a girl, Chavvi Kohli had to face the entire society in the regards of the type of sport that she is interested in. Eventually had gone through hard training for which she is much thankful to her coaches. Apart from this, she has been working hard on improving her game without compromising on her studies.
The thing that motivates the young fencer is the spirit of nationalism. It is perhaps the main reason for encouraging her to play for the nation first, and then for herself. She has won more than 25 medals in National as well as International level. Which is quite inspiring for the ones who make lame excuses to justify their helplessness and think that they can’t be the cream of the crop.
“Never say Never because of limits, like fears, are often just an illusion.”
Her struggles and dedication stayed as brilliant as ever, and she eventually set a benchmark for all. People who think that it is not a perfect time and age for them to work hard for their dreams. Success is not dependent on age, gender, or circumstances, it just demands hard work and learning from failure. Chavvi Kohli is one of the role models of her school who inspires her juniors as well as seniors to chase their dreams without bothering about the success. As they say, achieving something high is never a bed of roses.
